Webinar Content: With increasing life expectancy in the population, patients with multiple systemic diseases and polypharmacy are becoming more common in dental practices. For dental-surgical procedures, one important question is whether systemic diseases with or without systemic medication increase the risk of failure of the planned interventions. Additionally, medications or the underlying diseases themselves can lead to complications during oral surgical procedures, which can sometimes be difficult to manage. Fundamentally, only through a comprehensive medical history — and, if necessary, consultation with the patient's treating physician — can the risk of complications for dental-surgical procedures in patients with polypharmacy and multimorbidity be adequately assessed. Moreover, it becomes possible to specifically monitor for medication related side effects such as dry mouth, lichenoid changes, or ulcerative mucosal lesions, and to treat them as needed. This webinar offers a practice-oriented insight into the topic of "Medications in the Dental Practice." Special attention will also be given to the following topics.
Highlights:
Polypharmacy and Multimorbidity – what are they and why are they relevant?
Pain management in practice – from local to systemic approaches
Treatment of inflammations – infections and autoimmune processes
Antibiotics – guidelines as a basis for proper usage
